Result Interpretation

30.0 - 80.0 ng/mL         Optimum Levels (Reference range)
> 80.0 ng/mL                Toxicity possible
20.0 - 29.0 ng/mL         Insufficiency
10.0 - 19.0 ng/mL         Mild to Moderate Deficiency
< 10.0 ng/mL                Severe Deficiency

Optimum levels for 25-Hydroxy Vitamin D are 30.0 ng/mL and above based on the Endocrine Society guidelines 2011. However, there is a lack of consensus on this and the Institute of Medicine recommends 20.0 ng/mL and above as optimum levels. Vitamin D results may vary depending on the method of analysis. The current  Roche Cobas e801 Electrochemiluminescent method measures both D2 and D3.
