Reference ranges for pediatric population (0-18 years old) are from Shearer, William T., et al. "Lymphocyte subsets in healthy children from birth through 18 years of age: the Pediatric AIDS Clinical Trials Group P1009 study." Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology 112.5 (2003): 973-980.
Reference ranges for adult (18-65 years old) and geriatric (65 years old and above) populations were developed at North Shore University Hospital at Manhasset, New York.
Test Classification and CPT Coding
86359 - t cells, total count

Specimen Requirements
Specimen must arrive within 24 hours of draw. Contact the Tumor Marker (Flow Cytometry) Laboratory at 516-562-4169 for collection instructions and consultation on selection of test(s).
Container/Tube: Lavender-top (EDTA) tube
Specimen: 3 mL of EDTA whole blood
Transport Temperature: Room Temperature
Collection Instructions: Forward promptly. Specimen cannot be refrigerated.
Rejection Criteria
All Peripheral Blood samples that were not kept and/or transported at room temperature 18-25°C will be rejected. These samples are also rejected if the laboratory cannot feasibly complete testing within 30 hours post collection and the sample has not been preserved, unless viability is greater than 80%.
