No blood parasites found

% parasitemia is performed on all positives.

 

Includes detection and identification of pathogens that can typically only be acquired through travel to endemic areas, such as Plasmodium spp. (malaria), microfilaria, trypanosoma, and other blood parasites. Parasitemia will automatically be performed on Plasmodium spp. positive samples. The test order “Parasitemia” is NOT needed.

Physician Office Specimen Requirements

Container/Tube:  Lavender-top (EDTA) tube(s)

Specimen:  3 mL (minimum volume:  1 mL) of EDTA whole blood

Transport Temperature:  Ambient

Collection:  Please send separate tube for testing Do Not Share

Collection Instructions:   Initial negative blood parasite smear – should be repeated every 12-24 hrs for a total of 3 sets.
