Serum is NOT acceptable
 
Collection: Specimen should be centrifuged as soon a possible after collection for best results. Once separated plasma is stable for 8 hours at 15 - 25° C or 14 days at 2 - 8° C. If blood is not centrifuged lactic acid is only stable for 4 hours.
