This test aids in the diagnosis of C. difficile colitis. Do not order on patients hospitalized for more than three days. Stool specimens must be unformed/liquid.

Collection Instructions

Container: Screw-capped, sterile container
Specimen: 5 g (minimum volume: 1 g) of liquid or soft stool (specimen should conform to shape of container)
Transport Temperature: Refrigerate
Specimens with addictive or in leaky containers will be rejected
Collection Instructions:
Note: Formed stools should not be tested, as positive results in asymptomatic patients generally represent colonization rather than Clostridioides (Clostridium) difficile infection (CDI). Submit only 1 specimen per episode. Repeat testing will offer no further useful clinical information.
Unacceptable Collections: ESwab or any similar specimen with a liquid or gel. Added media may interfere with PCR assay.
