Clinical Info

Evaluate nonbound calcium, calcium metabolism, physiologically active calcium fraction, hyperparathyroidism, ectopic hyperparathyroidism. Occasionally useful when hypercalcemia coexists with abnormal protein state such as myeloma. Useful in assessing active calcium fraction in hypoproteinemia and acidosis when calcium is low.

Specimen: .1 mL serum - Send primary dedicated tube( No test add on accepted, unless unopened tube is available)
Transport Temperature: Refrigerated
Stability: 14 Days Refrigerated
Collection: Draw 1.75 mL of blood in a 3.5 mL serum gel tube or draw blood in a serum gel MICROTAINER®, completely filling the tube.) Allow blood to clot for 30 minutes. Centrifuge with stopper in place for 10 minutes at 3,000 rpm to ensure that gel barrier separates serum and cells. Keep specimen anaerobic (do not transfer) and send refrigerated in serum gel tube/MICROTAINER®. Specimen cannot be frozen.
